WHEN LOOKING TO BOOK YOUR ENGAGMENT + WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

First: Do they have experience?

As bad as this sounds, photographers charge what they are worth. If they are charging a lower amount, that most likely means they don't have a lot of experience. There could be other reasons for it, but I would enthusiastically advise to invest. The experience I offer now is a worlds difference than when I first started. Not to mention the time and practice I have invested into my career. This has drastically improved the overall experience of the couple and creative outcome.

Second:

Consistency

This is huge! Look at their Instagram, does is flow? Look at their website, do all the photos match?

And the most important thing, ask to see a full wedding gallery of a wedding they’ve shot. Sometimes photographers can have great fronts or just post the good stuff but have very badly edited indoor/reception photos. Make sure that the lighting and colors are consistent across the whole gallery.

Third, I would encourage you to look at their storytelling ability. Once you have a full wedding gallery to view, look at how the photos tell the story of the day. Did they take photos of grandparents wiping tears from their face? Did they capture details of the decorations, cake, and reception guests in a mesmerizing way?

Fourth thing is reviews. Most times they have them on their website or Instagram. It's kind of like a background check. Not all photographers can be great to work with and most are. Do they give people the experience they deserved on their big day. If so it will show! A saying I often go by is that a persons insides will most always reflect their outsides. Check for this.

Last but most important to me...because your time is so valuable to me and I am so thankful you are here reading this!

Make sure to find someone that fits who you are, style wise and personality. There are a variety of wedding photographers out there- with an array of ideas about how to photograph your day. Make sure to choose someone who YOU resonate with- trust me, it will create absolute FIRE. There is just something amazing that comes out of genuine connection with the person that is capturing probably the most important day of your life! If you are normally shy and quiet as a person, or as a couple pretty reserved, a photographer who showcases laughter, tons of movement, and crazy poses might not be the best photographer for you. And of course there are photographers who can do both, so just make sure to check out their galleries and Instagram feeds.
